Things that I haven't posted about.

I haven't posted about:

*K.C.'s Birthday (Done! click here to read)
*Me Taking A P90-X Class and placing 3rd!
*Savannah's First Birthday!
*Savannah's Birthday Photoshoot (don't worry I haven't edited that yet)
*Me loosing over 30lbs (go me!)
*K.C. becoming a round table break out teacher
*Our job hunting
*Getting our phones switched to a new provider and thus getting cool new phones
*Getting started selling Paparazzi Accessories and what a blessing that has been.
*My dear friend that I've tried to help but who has actually lifted and inspired me more than I can say as she has dealt with her sweet son moving on to continue his adventure in heaven, and the struggle that has been.
*All of our crazy traveling in May including:
*Going to Salt Lake to pick up Daniel my cousin and get my brothers stuff
*Going to NV to take pictures of K.C.'s sister Kaylea's wedding,
*Going to Arizona to shoot a wedding in a hot air balloon. (can I just say "most stressful shoot I've ever done?!") And 2 newborn shoot that I snuck in!
*Coming home for a few days
*Then back to Arizona for a few weeks for another of K.C.'s sisters weddings (Lana) which I also took the pictures at. And helping his parents get started selling Paparazzi Accessories.
*All of Savannah's milestones and updates
*The crafts that I've made
*Craigs' brilliance as he continues to delight us every day...
*And how we're planning another trip this time to encompass Salt Lake, NV and Idaho.

Basically I'm behind. Very very behind. But I've been so busy doing all of these things that I run from one to the next and don't have the time to keep a nice record of them. And I've been bad, oh so bad at reading other people's blogs too! sometimes I just want that lazy feeling of "hmm what should I do now? I think I'll look at some blogs and catch up on my friends...leisurely... because I can!" or even just "Hey my kid just did something cute I'm going to post about it and I can do that!"

Notice the time? 1:40AM? sigh.

Dear life, why can I never catch up? Please try to get back to normal soon. Thanks so much. Love me

A God of Miracles

I believe in miracles! See I'm going to be taking pictures at my sister-in-laws wedding in a few weeks but due to my recent camera upgrade (the warranty replaced my 50D with a 60D!!!!!) All of my accessories like the remote shutter control, battery grip, extra batteries, etc don't fit my new camera.

These are not necessities but they sure do make a photo shoot a lot easier. I decided that I would try to sell all of my old equipment and my Rebel camera to try and get enough money to buy the new pieces. I have NEVER had any luck selling things but this was kind of important to me so I tried it.

They had been on Craigslist and in a local camera store for weeks and I was starting to get worried because I had to order the new stuff if I wanted it to get here before the wedding. But there wasn't even anyone who was interested.

So yesterday I said a prayer and told Heavenly Father that it would really mean a lot if I could sell my stuff soon. Not a big deal right? But at the same time, to me it was.

Well today I woke up from putting Craig down for a nap (haha) to K.C. telling me someone was asking about my battery grip. He said he'd think about it and as soon as I hung up with him I got a text about my rebel and then a call from someone who said they'd pay cash for my rebel if I could meet them in 20 minutes! I was a little shocked! ME? Actually selling something from Craigs list? Wonder of wonders it actually happened!

But the neatest part was I was able to use the money to replace every single piece that no longer fit! It was enough with some left over! AND it will even get here before we leave for AZ. You can't tell me that my prayer wasn't answered!

It's so powerful to me when I have an experience like that where something so insignificant and unimportant, in the grand scheme of things, works out so perfectly and so completely. I feel so loved and it reminds me that God isn't there only for the BIG things. And that He really does want us to be happy, not just surviving but happy. I don't know it's almost more impacting to me when a personal and non-essential request is answered than the big ones, because then it's even more obvious that he loves ME and that He cares about what I feel. I'm so blessed.

What a wonderfully good day.

Let it be said

When you look around my life you might find a spotless house, decorated with good taste, clean children, fashionably clothed and well behaved, cute crafts everywhere, laundry always done, toys always put away and lovely aromas of beautiful yummy masterpieces cooking in the kitchen. And of course myself showered, dressed (also very fashionably) make up done, hair done all poised and confident, ready for anything!

Well that's what you might see, but then again maybe not. Actually there's a very slim chance of you seeing any of that. For although I get up and earnestly keep myself very busy all day long doing everything I can think of to be a good wife, mother, home maker and friend... when night comes and I look around at the fruits of my day, (sigh) well the cold hard truth is they look more like unorganized chaos.

Laundry dutifully started and with great intentions of this time getting from start to finish in one single day... still folded on the floor from several days ago. But wait, helpful hands and feet have not let it lay there in peace. No. Now it's just a pile of once clean clothes mingled with a random shirt here or there that was stripped off of a busy son on his way in from the back yard, dirty and of course not suitable to wear anymore.

Dirty diapers left in a pile, never quite making it to the garbage. Toys and games strewn from one end of the house to the other. Once again lunch will just be sandwiches, and dinner, well hamburger helper will have to do. My 'poised and ready self' consisting of sweats and T-shirt hair pulled hastily into a ponytail and yesterdays makeup still smearing around my eyes.

And the children, oh the children! The clothes that were clean 15 minutes ago now have a variety of things clinging to them. Dust and dirt, yogurt, apple juice, the remains of a strawberry, chocolate, don't forget to change that dirty diaper again...too busy to hold still the dirty little faces rush off in search of the next adventure, messy hair flying atop their heads.

I can't keep up and before I know it the day is gone.

There are so many things that I'd like to be. So many talents I'd like to have. I would love to have the energy and ability to somehow master a lifestyle that constantly evades me! And try as I might to become the person in my picture perfect imagination, well, I always fall short. It's such a depressing feeling sometimes!

It's about the time that I'm looking around the house at my many many evidences of yet another day full of failures that K.C. comes and gently reminds me.

"The laundry was left laying there because you stopped working to play with the kids."
"Food on faces is evidence of well fed happy children."
"The toys are reminders of happy times playing and laughing."
"When I look around our home (which he tells me isn't as bad as I seem to think it is) I don't see failures. I see evidences of busy happy people leading happy lives."

So my friends. It may not be said of me that I'm a great home maker. It may not be said that my children are always clean and well dressed. It may not be said that I am fashionable or trendy or that my home is always clean.

But I hope that if there is something to say that it can be said of me that I love my children. That I would do anything for my family and that we have made some wonderful memories as we have laughed, worked and played together.

So let it be said that my joy is my family, my life is my husband and folding laundry will just have to wait because I've got some memories to make!

Hair Cuts! (and Color)

So once again my hair was driving me nuts! Time for a hair cut! I got it cut and then a few days later went back for the color. So this before picture is actually just before the color but it's all I had!

                                Before                                                          After
                                                                                            {not yet fixed!}

I was not sure how I was going to feel about the bangs... but I like them!

My hair just naturally flips out. Can be a good and a bad thing. :)

I can hardly ever see it (since I don't usually carry a mirror around with me when I'm outside.) And I haven't got a good picture of it yet but when the light shines on it right you can see the red in it! I love it. I wish I had a good picture of it though!

Wanda came and got her hair cut too! It was tons of fun.
And I love the new look on her.

New Callings

the 2nd counselor in the new bishopric called and talked to K.C. and I could hear them talking for the most part about Cub Scouts and if K.C. had enjoyed it. When K.C. got off the phone he told me that Bro. Hyde was going to come and visit with us that night.

I was happy for K.C. that he was going to get back into scouting and didn't think much else of it. When Bro. Hyde got here he chatted for a while and then turned to me and said "Well K.C. is off the hook, Celeste will you be the Secretary in Primary?" I admit I was a little shocked and not at all prepared.

I was mostly bummed that I wouldn't be able to get to know people in this ward like I was planning on. But I will just have to be more creative about it I guess. I did find it kind of funny that it was the exact thing that happened to me in the Red Ledge ward.

The Scenario:
Move in, ward dissolved next Sunday, go one Sunday, called to primary pres.
Still here, ward dissolved, go one Sunday, Called to primary pres.

I guess primary is the place for me right now. I have been enjoying it though. Being secretary is right up my alley because I get to organize and make lists!

So a few days later we were out in Hurricane and the Stake called wanting us to come in for a visit with one of the Stake presidency. (Uh that's never happened, SCARY.)

That was on the night that we had a state of emergency in Washington County because of all the flooding. We borrowed my parents van so that it would brave the wet roads better but when we got to our house to change out of our dirty painting clothes we were very dismayed to find that we were locked out of the house because our keys were still in Hurricane. Can I just say ultra embarrassment and panic? They had given us like an hour notice so they said we didn't have to come in Sunday clothes. But still I'm pretty sure they weren't expecting WORK clothes/ Pajamas!

Sigh. But there wasn't much we could do about it so we went and I was very grateful to have my very long coat in the car to cover up all but the ends of my pants and my flip flops. (It was kind of funny though a very nice lady in the foyer that was waiting with us for their turn offered to let me borrow her shoes! When I grow up I want to be nice like that!)

So long story short K.C. is the Second Counselor in the Elders Quorum.

THEN the next day we get a call asking if we could meet with the bishop that night, (again with about an hours notice). My thoughts: This is getting to be a bad habit! What now?

But as it turns out he just wanted to get to know us. It was a very busy week.

Flexible.

This is the point where I need to stop. Take a deep breath and remember that plans can change. I can be flexible right? Not playing out the way I had in mind isn't necessarily a bad thing right?... RIGHT??!! Sigh.

And that's why I'm here

I've been trying to study and pepare for a talk that I'm giving in church on sunday. The topic... "The harvest is safely in."

So I've been thinking and pondering on it for days now and today I've been trying to collect my thoughts and get them all put together in a logical order...

And I am oh SO distracted! First of all it's not exactly the easiest topic and second of all, I kind of fell tonight and banged up my right shin and my left foot. The combo is great. Can't really walk. Can't really limp. Can't really sit because the foot starts to swell. Can't concentrate, because, well because I'm distracted!

And that's why I'm here. Blogging instead :)

Funny story though that I just remembered I wanted to write down. (See this, inspiration flowing about any and everything except my talk!)

Craig has had very little interest in eating lately. And when he is at the table he usually has a toy or two with him. Not my favorite thing but I was hoping that it would help the "meal time" which is not so fun to him be more of a positive in his life and not a negative on top of a negative. That was the thought anyways. But it's gotten to the point where he is playing constantly with them and by the time K.C. and I are done and clearing the table he's still only had 2 bites.

So we decided that something had to be done. I explained it to him and told him that if he kept playing with his toys at meal time then we were going to have to have a new rule and not bring the toys to the table anymore because they were distracting.

His response was "I'm not distracted! I'm focused!"

(What? Who taught him that?)

Then he proceeded to quote from his Mater the Greater book.
"And cars came from all around to watch his stunts! But Mater the Greater wasn't distracted! He was focused! I'm focused too mama!"

Now that is cute enough to smile about! And I'm happy to say that he actually has been quite focused and has left his toys alone (they watch him carefully to make sure he's eating) until he's done. Then he tells me he's done and asks if he can have the toys.

Sometimes being a mom is SO difficult and sometimes, well, sometimes it melts your heart and makes you glow with pride. It's little things like that or coming and sweetly asking if he can go outside, because he knows I want to know where he is. Or when he's running to and fro in the house and stops long enough to tell me he loves me. When he's confronted with a decision that we've talked about and he considers it carefully and then makes the right one! Or waking up to find me sleeping on the floor because he's kicked me out of my bed and crawling down on the floor with me and cuddling up next to me saying "Mama, I just want to sleep by you. I love you." that make me think. Yes this is a good life. And it really is. I have a wonderful life. I'm really grateful that I have so much to be grateful for. And I'm glad for the little reminders that the little things truly are the big things!

I'm the mom? Is this a good idea?

So I thought it was going to be so fun to have a blog when my baby was little because it was going to be so handy and fun to record all the little things and milestones that I want to remember and then they wouldn't be on random scraps around the house and get lost and do no good at all!

One problem.

It doesn't work AT ALL if you don't have the time to sit down and post about it!

I've always heard how the first baby gets so much attention and how everything they do is so amazing and fun and when the second one comes along you don't take as many pictures and they pretty much get left out! I thought "Well that's sad, but at least my kids won't have to worry about that! I'm going to make a big deal out of everything for each one of them. And I'll never forget to record them so I'm sure I won't forget!" I have since come to realize a sad reality. It's not that I don't get thrilled about every little achievement and every cute thing that she does, because I do! I love it! The problem is TIME.

So I admit with shame. Here it is 5 months after Savannah was born and I'm just now making the 7th post about her. I went from 8 days to 3.5 months with NO updates. This is one of the many things that just makes me groan inside.

Sometimes I wonder why I'm the mom. Why is it even remotely fair that two young peoples exsistence, happiness, memories, feelings of security and love... etc. etc. depend so much on me. At times it really does seem like they are getting a really rotten deal.

I'm full of good intentions. Full of "Oh I'll never do that!" or "I'm going to be the best mom because..." But when push comes to shove I'm crawling out of bed trying to accomplish the most basic of tasks and then rushing madly about all day, doing things that all seem so important and pressing, and time consuming and then I fall into bed exhausted at the end of the day (usually sometime around 2:00am) and wonder "What in the world did I get done today?" And then all too soon I'm starting it all over again.

I love my kids, the sweet hugs Craig gives me, the smiles that light Savannah's face, the delightful sounds of laughter that fill our home when they are playing with daddy... I wouldn't trade it for the world. But knowing that if I don't preserve these memories, if I don't MAKE the time for memories, if I don't don't teach them, or have traditions, or this or that... the list goes on and on, if I don't do it then no one will, is exhausting in and of itself. No pressure... I'm just the mom. Good luck kids! And how can I possibly be filling all of these rolls adequately when I feel like I'm constantly running in circles.

I have list after list in my head (and on papers here and there, and on the computer, and in my planner, and on my phone... EVERYWHERE!) When I get a free moment, I feel like I need to jump into something as fast as I can to maximize every second of time. But then I end up wasting all the time trying to sift through my to do's trying to find something that I could accomplish in the time given. It's so exasperating!

It just seems bigger than me. To have all the responsibilities that I have, to do them well, to have energy and time to have FUN too instead of only checking things off and 'getting things done!' It just seems like there are so many people who do it all so well, regular everyday people changing lives and making a difference everyday. They make it look so easy! I know that it is bigger than me, I just wish that sometimes the gap between where I ought to be and where I am would be a bit smaller!

AGHH!

So much to blog about. No time to blog! I'm SO behind. I haven't even posted about Craig's birthday... And that was a month and a half ago! And Savannah has hit so many milestones and done so many cute things and I haven't had the chance to record them either! I hate feeling like I'm never on top of things! Especially when it's recording the memories of my family. Grrr.

Family pictures and going home

So I finally got around to doing some of our own family pictures. Thanks wanda for all of your help. I'm excited to get to post them. (there are a few in the header) It was a near desaster because I miss calculated when the sun went down but we still got a few good ones!

AND...

We've been on the farm in NV for several weeks now and tomorrow we are going home. We've been helping with 3rd cutting and it has been lots of fun but I'm so excited to be in MY home again!

New Traditions and Birthday Fun

This year I decided that I wanted to have lots of fun birthday traditions. I found a really awesome idea on a blog called secrets of a super mommy, so I put it into action. And I loved it!

First of all I made the birthday countdown board. I've heard of people doing "birthday weeks" before but I never really liked the idea until I saw this and it made sense how it could be fun and not overwhelming. I've wanted birthdays to be special because they are fun, not because you get a ton of presents. But I wasn't sure exactly how to go about doing that. This just happens to be the perfect solution for our family! It's simple and fun and memorable and works for any age! love, love LOVE it!

The board:

His name is at the top (Daddy's name is on the other side and there's a separate one for us girls. That way we can all use this board on our birthdays :)

Then there are he numbers that count down the last 6 days before his birthday. (I'm so amazed that I actually LOVE the way it all turned out.)

Then he gets to pick dinner every night too. It was pretty hillarious! He picked Ligits (Li-Gets) for dinner and it was a funny thing trying to figure out what a ligit was!

Then across the bottom is a row of cards that have a fun activity for each day.

One of the traditions was Put his birthday table cloth and chair cover (I made the chair cover) on and have people sign and date the table cloth. Then it can be pulled out on their birthday every year and added to.

(my first attempt at button holes ever! It was actually pretty fun - thanks to my mom, she walked me through it over the phone! But after I was done sewing them I had a blister on my finger because the knob that you twist to change the settings was SO hard to turn! But I think they look pretty good)

And lastly there is a bag hanging on the bottom that had a small present in it every morning. He LOVED this! He would make sure the bag was empty ever night and then hang it carefully on the peg. It was fun to see his eyes light up when he realized it wasn't empty in the morning! Such fun.

(love the Lightning McQueen PJ's and bag! I think it's cute how much he loves Cars!)

I'm so pleased with how it all turned out. I was making things last minute, trying to pull everything together and hoping that it would be fun for Craig. Miraculously I managed to get everything done, make everything and have it ready in time to do it. (even if that meant I finished it seconds before we put it to use!) But still. I did it! And I think that we all had a great time!

Oh and on their birthday you turn the board around and this is what it looks like:

P.S. I still can't believe I made it! :) it was so much fun.
Well there's lots more birthday updates and Savannah updates but bed is calling my name and so I'll have to try again later!

Big Changes

I got released as the second counselor in primary today. It was kind of a shock. But I know that it's a good thing.

It was pretty sudden. We were called in as a presidency to meet with the bishop right before church started. (We thought he was going to discuss a bunch of names that we'd just submitted) He released us and told us that the new presidency would be sustained in a few minutes. They were a good fit. I think they will do a great job.

It was bitter sweet and kind of a lost feeling all at the same time. I have to admit I'm going to miss cub scouts, and the kids in primary, and working with the presidency. But I am also excited to meet more people in the ward.

I'll be sad not to be with K.C. at all the Cub Scout functions. But I'm sure that when Craig turns 8 I'll get my fill of it! I guess it's time for a new adventure!

Thank you K.C. for being so supportive!

(I just hope that I'm ready for whatever comes next!)

So Lucky

I had a happy surprise the other day. After I posted that my house was a disaster I made a firm resolution to fix it! Then I went to exercise with the plan of coming back all motivated to make it happen! Well to my surprise when I got home K.C. told my that Annie and Elle called and said they were bored so they wanted to come clean the house!

What?

What kind of ten year old girls say that?!?!

Awesome ones! That's who.

So Annie and Elle performed a miracle for me. Even though they're only ten they are some of the biggest helpers in the world and they are really good at what they do. And SO thoughtful.

For me it was a miracle.

I'm so grateful for tender mercies that keep me going everyday. I sure am a lucky big sister!

Disaster

There is one word that quite acurately describes every inch of my house:

Disaster!

{ OK I confess, Daniel did help me clean some in the kitchen today... that was nice. There are a few inches in there that are quite refreshing, but as for the rest of it... sigh}

Hair Cut

So K.C. and I discovered that we both like the idea of me having long hair... but in actuality we love the pictures of it short. So... I chopped it off.

It was hard to say good bye to that much hair! Seriously there were 5 dustpans heaping full of hair. Sad day. But not really. I've been growing my hair out forever but I've mostly just been annoyed with it for quite a while so it was a good change. :)

Now I need to try it curly and see how that goes!

No time

I've realized something now that we have 2 kids... I don't ever have time to blog!

There's so many things that I need to update. I'm getting the itch to get caught up but everytime I sit down at the computer I've been spending my time catching up on photo shoots. So now that that is a little more under control I'm going to spend sometime on myself! - next time. :)

Baby Shower

(only 6 weeks left!)

Some wonderful ladies in my ward threw me a baby shower! It was so nice of them!

There were cute decorations...

Some classically funny shower games...
(Andrea won - I never realized how hard it was to drink out of a bottle... I have much more respect for the little people who have to eat out of them!)

I wasn't thinking enough to get a picture of this awesome cake before we started to eat it... So here's the remains of it. Sara Sullivan made it, it's seriously the best cake I've ever had before. I knew she made cakes but I never knew she was so talented and that they were so GOOD. Most of the pretty cakes that I've ever eaten did not taste good. This was pretty and yummy!

There was lots of really yummy food.
And lots of good company
(I would post pictures of the group but in just about every picture someone was making a funny face, so I figured they might be happier with me if I just left those out of the post :)

And lastly, the presents...

It was wonderful and such a blessing. I recieved things that were just what I needed, including diapers, clothes, hair accessories (can't wait to dress her up!) and a sit and stand stroller. I feel much better prepared for our little one to join the world and I'm very grateful for the wonderful people who have helped me to feel that way.

I love making things!

Over the last month I have been a busy bee. I haven't felt very good so I've tried to come up with things to keep my self busy and keep my mind off of things. Here's what I've done:

I crocheted this baby blanket:

I tried this new edge that I really like. I had to make up how to go around the corners, but I think it turned out pretty good.

Booties
When I was in AZ they had a craft / project day and everyone had something to work on but me. So we found some yarn and I crocheted these without a pattern....
(Not perfect I know but for making them up and never having done anything like it before, or even seen it done, I like them.) I think I'm still going to add a strap though... we'll see.

I didn't make this next one but it's part of my "organizational spurt"

Bobby Pin Tin
I have bobby pins in my hair all the time, and I usually forget to take them out till I'm already in bed. So the natural solution is to take them out and drop them on the floor to be picked up 'later.' (right). But even if I were to pick them up I have no good place to put them so they end up in random piles around the bathroom or just lost.

Problem solved with the Bobby Pin Tin!

I have one by my bed, and one in the bathroom. AND if I'm running late and need to do some getting ready in the car, they are ultra transportable and have LIDS so they won't spill in the car! Love it. It makes me happy every time I take out a bobby pin now.

We even hung the picture that we got back in May when we were on our cruise!
I love K.C. so much. It's fun to have little reminders around to see every day.

Hair Bow Organization!
I was tired of these bows laying around and getting lost or crumpled... But I didn't have a lot of time or money to come up with a really creative solution so I hung some ribbon on the wall. I have plans for improvements, but for now, SO much better! Now I just need to add more bows...

I finally got planner refills. I feel like I can have order in my life now. I didn't realize how much I write things down, until I had nowhere to write them.

Art
I'm finally drawing Craig! I always forget how much I love drawing till I start doing it again. I've never done one for my self though so I hope that I'm not too critical of it and that it turns out.

Baby Quilt
And last (for this post :) a baby quilt. I was able to get the material with some birthday money that I had and so I once again made up what to do. I ended up borrowing a sewing machine (thanks shannon) because my is a suffering from being dropped. and quilted it on a machine. Very beginner work here but all I have to do is finish the hem and it's done!

I'm not sure why but I've had the funnest time lately FINISHING projects and getting organized. Not just getting organized but staying organized. I love the fresh clean, free feeling of looking around my clean house and being free to think of something fun to do or make rather than be depressed with all of the little house keeping things that I'm NOT doing.

I think that having parts of the house so clean is what is motivating me to scheme and dream up organizational things for the rest of the house. So every chance I get to do or make something that will simplify a mess... I love it.

Like I said I don't know how long it will last but I've been trying so hard and not letting things stay messy and picking things up right away... I hope it lasts, but I'm not going to get stressed out about it, I'm just going to have fun with it (I'm even enjoying the cleaning because everything has, or is beginging to get, a place!)

Well I have another project that I started today. I need to find some ribbon and then I'll finish it and post pictures. I have a whole list (in my nifty planner :) of ideas and projects to work on so I'm sure there will be more to come.
