8 Days Old

This was kind of fun. I found Pictures of Craig when he was 8 days old and so I took some pictures of Savannah in the same chair with my bear buster.

She looks bigger than he was, but he was still more than a pound bigger than her at this point.

I love this picture! She is such a little girl!

They are definitely brother and sister! I love my kids.

And just a side note, I've been so proud of Craig! I've always heard that kids usually regress with potty training and act out a lot to get more attention. He has been so wonderful. He's continued on with his pottying about like normal, which basically means that he waits till the very last possible second before he runs to the bathroom. Every once in a while he doesn't quite make it and every once in a while he has an accident but overall he's doing really well. (Even if it does drive me nuts to have him dancing around!)

Let's go on a walk!

I asked Craig if he wanted to go on a walk with baby sister in the big stroller that would fit both of them. He wanted nothing to do with that idea.

But when I asked if he wanted to give her a ride in his little pink stroller (Yes my son has a pink stroller, he found it at a yard sale and LOVES it!) he was delighted with the idea.

It took her a minute to warm up to the idea

It's a pretty flimsy stroller so we just pushed her back and forth in the living room.
But Craig was having the time of his life.

1 week old

She's been here for a week and we are having so much fun getting to know her! She eats great (and I'm even starting to feel like I'm not going to be sore forever!) and she sleeps really good too. I've felt pretty rested and have been recovering very well.
I'm tired of laying on my back and I'm kind of sore from that, but it could be worse. We went to the Pediatrician to get her PKU test done and he was amazed that her cord had already fallen off and that she hadn't lost any weight either. She even grew 2.5 inches! Ok so after he measured her he saw that there was a 2.5 in difference and his response was "one of these measurements is wrong." No "lets measure again and make sure we got ours right" no no, just rest assured that one of these measurements is not accurate! End of story.

So here are the stats from the Dr.

Weight: 8lbs 4oz
Length: 22 3/4 inches

Curiosity got the better of me so I measured her again at home...TWICE just for kicks. Turns out the midwife was right she was and still is:

20 1/4 inches long!

I just wonder though, how in the world do you get a measurement off by 2.5 inches! That's actually quite the discrepancy for such a short measurement. Not sure how they did it.

Sad story:
When we got to the appointment we thought it would be a good idea to explain to Craig what was going on so that he would be prepared for it. NOT a good idea! He started crying, crumpled up on K.C.'s shoulder and just sobbed. Remember our experience with WIC?  Apparently he didn't. (I was going to link to the post about it but I guess there isn't one! So if you don't know the story I'd be happy to tell you!)

"I don't want them to poke Savannah!
That is a bad decision!
That will make me cry!
Then she will have a hole in her foot and she will bleed!
Her blood should not come out!"

The only thing that could get him happy again was knowing that when we got in there he could ask the nurse not to do it and see what she said. And sure enough as soon as we got inside he started asking me who he had to talk to to get them to not poke Savannah. (I think it's cute how he takes such good care of her! He's already a protective big brother!)

We decided that because the whole point of going was to get the PKU test done and we weren't actually going to stop them that Craig and I should hang out in the hall so he wouldn't have to watch. I think it was better for me too! So when the nurse came in with the needle we headed out. It worked pretty good he was distracted by the pictures and not too concerned about her.

When we got home Craig saw her Band-aid and then he got mad.

"That nurse didn't even let me stop her!
She poked baby sister!
That was a bad bad decision.
Mama, she should have a bad consequence, she should be in time out!
Go tell her mama, tell her to go to time out!"

That's my 2 yr old! I'm used to him saying things like that and so it seems normal to me but when I stop and think about it I'm a pretty proud parent. I think it's actually amazing how well he communicates and how much he can say and do. And how well he understands what I try to tell him. I think he understands a lot more than I give him credit for! I hope he rubs off on his sister. He's an amazing little boy.

Baby updates

First bath!

So pretty in pink.
She was laying there smiling for ever! It was so cute!

I still don't think that the pictures look just like her. They're better now that I have a better camera but still I take a picture and then compare her to the picture and it's just not quite the same.

But she's still adorable! I love her.

Welcome Savannah Lorraine!

On May 17, 2010 at 12:26 pm
Savannah Lorraine
joined our family.

At 7am I woke up with strong contractions. I had been having then through the night but I was able to ignore them and go back to sleep so I didn't think much of it. But when I woke up I knew that this was the real thing.

I we called Janae (our midwife) at 7:30 to give her the heads up that we'd need her soon. Then we called my parents to come get Craig (he was still sleeping). I took a shower and tried to relax but by 8 we decided that having someone else to help would be a good thing because they were getting intense fast. So we called Janae back and told her to come.

She got there around 8:20 and shortly after my parents showed up. K.C. and Dad gave me a blessing. I am so grateful for the priesthood! How wonderful it was to have that help and assurance as we started on this new adveture.

We were able to wake Craig up enough to tell him what was going on and let him know his sister would be 'out of mommies tummy' when he came back. He gave me the sweetest hug and told me he loved me. It was awesome. I love my son.

Then everyone left and we started doing what we could to deal with labor. It was a very new experience for me. Although this was my second child in many ways it was my first because I didn't feel a single thing with Craig so I really had no idea what to expect. There were times when it was a little scary just because of the unknown. But Janae was good to talk me through things and help me understand what was happening so it wasn't that bad.

She came after 5 and 1/2 hours of labor. It was all over a lot sooner than I expected. I was just getting geared up to endure an entire afternoon of intense labor when the Janae told me I could start pushing if I wanted. It wasn't what I had expected so I think I was still a little in shock when Savannah was born about 20 minutes later. I'm glad that it was relatively short.

Our little family and Janae.

All in all it was a wonderful experience.

We called my parents and had them bring Craig home. He got there about 30 minutes after she was born. While he was with grandma and grandpa they had taken him to pick out a present for baby sister. He'd picked a very small mouse and a lion. it was cute when he brought them over to her and layed them on her blanket.

I asked him who I was holding and he said "Oh that's Savannah." As if she'd always been part of our family and it was totally normal to have her there.

We even sang happy birthday to her and then K.C. got the present that Savannah had for Craig. There were 2 things that Savannah was going to give but we hadn't really talked about how or when. I was expecting it to be a train set that was in our bedroom. But I guess K.C. thought it was the train table, so that's what he got. It is quite large and made it a little crowded in the living room but Craig loved it and he's found part of it the day before so he was delighted to get to play with it.

Me and our newest miracle!

I can just tell that she's going to be a daddy's girl.

Craig has liked her ever since he met her. He doesn't want to hold her but he always keeps tabs on her and makes sure she's ok.

We let my sisters and parents come in as Janae was finishing up measuring and weighing her.

 First outfit.

Grandma and Grandpa Farr. These two people have figured out how to win the hearts of their grandchildren from day one.

Craig ran and got his cars and introduced each one to Savannah. It was SO CUTE!

"Here's Mr. The King Savannah!"

"Oh Savannah don't you like Doc?"

I love my little family. I'm so happy that Craig likes his sister. I am very very grateful for my wonderful husband who has helped and supported me and been Mr. Incredible while I've been recovering. K.C. You're amazing. Thanks for a beautiful family. I love you.

Week 40... and then some

So it seems that I will be pregnant for the rest of my life. I'm glad that this is actually not humanly possible, but at this point it just seems like I will be the first to try it. I know I'm only almost a week late, and there have been many other people who have gone later and longer than that and still survived. Power to them. I wish I knew the secret to relaxing and patiently waiting for her. Maybe it would be easier if I didn't have a contraction every little while to remind me that I'm still pregnant and that I'm still not in labor and that I'm still just waiting on her!

But on the up side, I am feeling better. I have virtually no Sciatic pain. My left hip has been the one hurting lately and it's been much much better the last couple of days. I've even been able to roll over in bed without my pelvis killing me! For the last several months, once I get laid down I pretty much have to have help to move or I just have to deal with pain that makes we want to scream or cry if I try to do it myself.

I've been going to a wellness clinic that has helped me a ton and finally yesterday I noticed that the pelvic pain was starting to go away and I was starting to feel more like I ought to feel. I'm very grateful for this blessing. At least if I have to wait I can at least do it with a measure of comfort instead of in misery!

I guess we'll see what happens now. (or in this case what DOESN'T happen!)

Don't get me down

So here's how it went.

Craig (calling from the other room): "Mama, Please don't get me down!"

Me: "Hmm I wonder what he's up to."

Craig again as if waiting for me to come running in and stop him from whatever he was doing. "Mama! Mama, please don't get me down!"

K.C. and I went to investigate. He had pulled a chair over to the TV to reach the top of it where the Wii remotes were charging out of his reach.

I suppose if he's going to try to do something he knows he's not supposed to do it's nice that he at least tells us about it. :)

Funny kid.

Week 39 1/2

39 1/2 weeks Pregnant and still no sign of that changing.

This is me trying to be patient.

Thanks Wand for taking pictures. It was fun. But next time I think I'd rather not fall into a hole! I think those pants still have little stickers in them!

We went to Harmons while the Hunts were here, and mom loved the "Expectant Mother Parking" spot so of course I had to get a picture with it. I got a lot of really weird looks though! haha. Fun times.

Graduation!

On May 7th 2010 K.C. Graduated from Dixie State College with a Bachelors Degree in Computer Information Technology with and Information Technology Emphasis.

He has worked long and hard to earn this degree and I am so proud of him. There have been many sacrifices along the way and many times when we wondered how we were going to keep going. But now he's earned a well deserved break and I hope he gets to relax and love life, enjoy being a father and a husband and see what else this world has to offer besides the life of a full time student.

(K.C. was 6th from the left of the very first row)

So proud of you K.C.!
Right before the program began

Walking through the D

Shaking President Nadauld's Hand
(he is the husband of a former Young Womens president that I had the chance to meet when my sister and I were in the General Young Womens broadcast. Sister Nadauld has a special spot in my heart so I thought it was kind of neat)

Graduated!

Let the party begin!
I thought it would have been cool if they had thrown their hats, but apparently no one wanted to try to find theirs again, so they didn't throw them.

(He didn't even miss it because of the baby!)

I tried... Not very high, but at least I left the ground!

K.C.'s Family came down to support him and join the celebration. It was really fun to see them and very nice of them to come all that way!

We love you K.C.!
You're AMAZING!

After Graduation we all gathered at my Uncle Allen house and had a Wii / DDR party on his 13ft screen! It was very fun.

You did it K.C.! Love you.
