Playing with a friend

Recently Craig had the chance to play with a friend all day (because his mom was going out of town.) We had lots of fun. One of the activities that we did was to make chocolate octopi!

It was great fun to have the boys mixing and measuring. (I think it's a good thing that the point to was to have fun making a fun shape, not necessarily loving the way the end product tasted, because they were shall we say, hard and nasty!)

 The finished product!

"Take a picture of us and our cookies!"

"I'm smiling"

"Are you smiling?"

"Yep! We're both smiling!"

The Scrunch

I told you I'd post pictures! And oh they are good ones too!

Don't ask me where she got this! But it makes me laugh every time!

Half scrunch, half smile, mostly "I really want to eat what you're eating mom (hence the scrunch) and you've almost got it figured out (hence the almost smile.)"

Funny faces. Funny girl.

Lack of pictures

There's a sad lack of pictures in these posts! I usually don't like to post unless there's a picture to go along with it... But lately I've found that if I wait for the chance to get the picture off the camera, reduce the size and then post about it.... I just never do it cuz I don't have time! So for now. I guess you'll just have to imagine :)

Must have that phone!

Savannah is obsessed with our phones! She gets a light in her eye and starts wiggling and squirming with a determination when she sees one of them. ESPECIALLY when they light up! That's the best.

We ocassionally let her play with them and are trying to teach her not to put them in her mouth. It's a work in progress but I think we're making headway!

The funniest thing to me though is now she grabs them holds it up so she can see it and puts one finger on the screen! It's adorable! I haven't caught a picture of it yet but I hope I can because it's too funny for a little 8 month old baby to hold a touch phone and act like she knows what to do with it!

Bed Time

Craig is moving to a wonderful new phase in life where we can read him a story for bed time (or nap time) and then get up and leave and he'll stay there and go right to sleep! He used to do it this way and then stopped so I'm really enjoying it again!

However he also LOVES to come into our bed. So we are constantly coming up with ideas of how to get him to stay in his bed all night. The times that he's staying in his room all night are increasing but not as quickly as K.C. and I would like.

When I was putting him down tonight I read - well actually he 'read' meaning recited 2 whole reader books to me practically word for word. Then we read a scripture story and before I could get to the end he said "Then Nephi stretched out his hand and Shocked Laman and Lemuel and then they knew that he had the power of God. And they didn't throw him in the sea!"

I didn't know he knew that one! I love surprises like that! Anyways. I got up and left and told him I'd come back to check on him in a while.

I leave.

a few minutes later I hear the clank of cars from his room and some moving about. (tonight he was going to bed with a bag of cars and this was the source of the noise).

I go to check on him. And see him jump into bed.

"Craig what are you doing?"

"Mama I thought you said you were going to bed!"

The story came out he was on his way to our room when he saw us in the office and hurried back to bed.

"I'll go to bed after you fall asleep Craig."

I leave.

Many minutes later, I go check again.

He's laying on his bed with his eyes closed and looks fast asleep. Perfect! Love that kid! Then I hear...

"Mama, I'm asleep, will you go to bed now so I can come in?"

I still love that kid. I love that he loves being with us. I love that he is so sweet. I love that he tries his best to do everything just right. And I have to admit that I also love to see how he thinks about things and realize that he's using my words against me and reasoning me into a corner! Even though I get stuck sometimes I still think of it as a success because that little genius is MY KID! Yes I love him.

Let the crafting begin!

Tomorrow is my day (because K.C. is so sweet to take the kids on Fridays and let me get a few on 'my' things done. Honestly he's the best husband ever!) usually I use the day to catch up on cleaning that I haven't been able to get to, or to update our finances and pay bills, or edit pictures that have been gathering dust in my "someday I'll get these edited" files. ( And then there's the never ending project of keeping this blog up to date! A lovely somewhat unsuccessful at times endeavor!

But tomorrow I have different plans. Time to make something!

The project: undisclosed (at this time)

The supplies: adorable.

The purpose: A gift!

I'm excited. I hope it all turns out! I'll post pictures when I can. I'll be surprised (but very pleased) if I can get all 4 projects done tomorrow.

Happy crafting. Happy Friday!

From the Mouth of Craig: Scriptures with Grandpa

Craig is staying the night at grandma and grandpa's tonight. They sent us this little clip of him helping them read scriptures.

Apparently they were reading from the phone and Craig really loved that so he took the phone and carried it around to everyone letting them read one verse (and occasionally helping them to get it right! :)

Thanks for sharing dad! I loved it.

From the Mouth of Craig: Looking back

{ Craig 1 month }

We were looking at pictures of Craig when he was a baby. When Craig saw this picture he said....

"Hey mama, what's going on with my hair?"

And after looking at it critically for a few moments...

"And what's wrong with my face?"

From the Mouth of Craig: A Nap?

Lunch time.

Daddy: "Mama do you think Craig needs a nap?"

Mama: "I don't know but I need a nap. I'm tired"

Daddy: "Can you believe that Craig? do you think mama needs a nap?"

Craig: "Mama, you don't need to take a nap, because you're being so sweet that you can stay up just like me! You're being sweet mama so you don't need a nap. Silly mama."

From the mouth of Craig: South Heaven

Another adorable prayer.

Craig was kneeling by his bed saying his prayers this morning and was thanking Heavenly Father for making his hurt foot (his toes got run over yesterday) feel better.

"Thank Thee for fixin up my foot for me." Jumps up with excitement "Mama! He took me up into heaven and fixed up my foot then brought me back."

Pauses to think for a moment.

"Not the heaven with dead people in it just the heaven with live people in it. North heaven is where the dead people are and South heaven is where the live people are. He took me to south heaven."

Kneels back down and finishes his prayer.

North and South heaven? Where in the world did that come from? I've never said anything like that before! I'm not sure where he came up with it but it's sure made me smile.

Oh Savannah, don't you cry for me

Poor Savannah.

She has a fever and just wants to cuddle with me. She's drooling (which I was surprised to realize surprised me! Craig was a never ending fountain of moisture and I just hadn't noticed recently that Savannah is a very dry non-drooly non-spitting baby. In fact I've all but stopped carrying around a burp cloth because she just doesn't ever need it.) Any ways, she's fevery and drooly and droopy and if left on her own, quite sad. I fear a tooth is coming on. I haven't been able to get a good look or feel for that matter at her mouth so I don't know that for sure but I do think that she's working on one.

I like that she's a mama's girl today but I don't much like that she has to be so sad at the same time. Poor thing.

But on the up side here's a few belated updates about her recent achievements that I haven't posted yet:

Crawling EVERYWHERE She is a certified hands and knees crawler! Several weeks ago I think Mid November sometime this became her preffered mode of travel. Up untill then the army crawl is what she did about half the time. It is pretty cute to watch her follow Craig around.

She's been getting adventuresome too. If I put her down in the living room and then go into the kitchen pretty soon she's pulling on my pant leg wanting me to pick her up. She'll Crawl into the office and find K.C. too it's fun to have her being more independent.

UP! That's a big thing for her right now. Crawling around is fine. Playing on the floor is fine but the real fun in life comes when you can stand up! She will pull herself up on anything and walk along beside it. She even stood by herself without holding on to something for the first time about a week ago. She's done it a couple of times since but she's been rather clingy and not feeling good for the last several days so she'd rather be cuddled up on my shoulder than exploring, and I don't blame her.

SCRUNCH! Oh the scrunch! This deserves a post all its own. Savannah has the funniest little scrunchy face that she's been doing lately. She scrunches her nose and lifts her top lip and makes a little squawk. I don't know where she got it but it's sure cute. You'll have to see a picture to understand the funniness of it though.

And we thought he might not notice.

Craig playing in Mack, pops his head out and says:  "Um mama, this is not where Mack's door opens. His door opens in the back of his trailer!"

Me: "Well Trucks do have a door there"

Craig: "He could not open his door right here because this is where his brains are!" (hahahaha!)

A minute later: "Mama you forgot to paint Lighting McQueen on the side of him. And all the other stuff that is by Lightning! You've got to do it right now mama!"

I guess I'm glad to know that Craig doesn't doubt my artistic abilities! Haha. But those things were missing for the precise reason that I DO.

Christmas

Christmas morning!

{what a cozy little setting! By the way, have I mentioned that I love this tree?)

Christmas was fun and a little different this year. I guess you could say it was more about quality and now so much about quantity. It was a little hard not being able to get what I wanted for K.C. but it was also fun trying to find the perfect gift for my budget. I ended up getting him an Under Aurmor hat that he's been asking about forever. I think he liked it.

Craig's Stocking: He insisted on using the one we got as a temporary stocking for Savannah this year. Silly boy.

Savannah's Stocking: Craig also decided that she got my stocking this year.

K.C.'s Stocking: (He was the only one who got the right one :)

My Stocking: (Yes it's really Craig's that I got to use :)

We all got little tiny oranges in our stockings but Savannah LOVED hers. She was so busy holding one in each hand that she was just not interested in wrapping paper (which I thought she would have loved) Silly girl. She was making us all laugh.

Craig liked his dinosaur train.
But I got the best gift of all. K.C. Wrote me the nicest poem and then framed it all pretty. With a matching frame and necklace in it. I have a sweet husband.

We had to get up extra early because we had to go out to my parents in Hurricane by 10:00am for the missionary phone call from Jacob in Mexico. So we made history by going and waking our kids up on Christmas morning at 7:00. When we were all done with our festivities we packed up some games and headed to Hurricane.

It was fun to spend the day playing and having a good time with family. Merry Christmas everyone.

The Ultimate Big Mack!

My sister Wanda had a great idea to use craigs top bunk bed and make a fort out of it. After drawing up lots of different ideas K.C. and her finally decided on a Mack Truck! And what better for A Craig than a Mack truck! I mean really.

So we went out to Grandma and Grandpa's the Monday before Christmas and Dad and K.C. cut it all out. Then we spent the next three days there just painting and building.

Pretty Good if I do say so myself! K.C. did most of the front and I did most of the side. Annie and Elle basically painted all the red and all the white on the inside and they helped with several of the details too. (The different pieces are just leaning against each other here. It's not actually put together yet)

We took it out to our house to complete construction because once it was built it wouldn't have fit through the doors. We had to distract Craig in the living room while we finished.

My try at a simplified Rust-eze logo. :)

K.C. and my dad putting it all together!
It was a perfect fit.

We through a blanket over it...

We all gathered around with the cameras to see the unveiling...

 Here he comes....
Even with the blanket on he could see a corner of the front of him and he was, well the picture describes it very well. He was so excited!
 Pulling the blanket off...

Happy happy boy!

The rest of the story:

He immediately got all of his cars and hauled them up into the fort. He put his rug that has roads on it up there too.

Lunch time came... Craig was still in mack and insisted on eating in there. On his Lightning McQueen plate, with is Lightning McQueen glass. He had a string Cheese and when he was done with it he ran into the bathroom, got his garbage can that has lightning McQueen on it and hauled it into his bed room so we could put it into Mack too.

He has it all very organized it there!

Night Came: Must sleep in Mack. So K.C. put a camping pad in there and for the first time in a long time, Craig stayed in his room ALL night!

Next Day: Just about every moment was spent in mack again, including nap time, meal time and bed time.

Long story short... Craig LOVES his Mack!
What a great Christmas present, thanks for all the good ideas and everyone's help!
