Welcome Savannah Lorraine!

On May 17, 2010 at 12:26 pm
Savannah Lorraine
joined our family.

At 7am I woke up with strong contractions. I had been having then through the night but I was able to ignore them and go back to sleep so I didn't think much of it. But when I woke up I knew that this was the real thing.

I we called Janae (our midwife) at 7:30 to give her the heads up that we'd need her soon. Then we called my parents to come get Craig (he was still sleeping). I took a shower and tried to relax but by 8 we decided that having someone else to help would be a good thing because they were getting intense fast. So we called Janae back and told her to come.

She got there around 8:20 and shortly after my parents showed up. K.C. and Dad gave me a blessing. I am so grateful for the priesthood! How wonderful it was to have that help and assurance as we started on this new adveture.

We were able to wake Craig up enough to tell him what was going on and let him know his sister would be 'out of mommies tummy' when he came back. He gave me the sweetest hug and told me he loved me. It was awesome. I love my son.

Then everyone left and we started doing what we could to deal with labor. It was a very new experience for me. Although this was my second child in many ways it was my first because I didn't feel a single thing with Craig so I really had no idea what to expect. There were times when it was a little scary just because of the unknown. But Janae was good to talk me through things and help me understand what was happening so it wasn't that bad.

She came after 5 and 1/2 hours of labor. It was all over a lot sooner than I expected. I was just getting geared up to endure an entire afternoon of intense labor when the Janae told me I could start pushing if I wanted. It wasn't what I had expected so I think I was still a little in shock when Savannah was born about 20 minutes later. I'm glad that it was relatively short.

Our little family and Janae.

All in all it was a wonderful experience.

We called my parents and had them bring Craig home. He got there about 30 minutes after she was born. While he was with grandma and grandpa they had taken him to pick out a present for baby sister. He'd picked a very small mouse and a lion. it was cute when he brought them over to her and layed them on her blanket.

I asked him who I was holding and he said "Oh that's Savannah." As if she'd always been part of our family and it was totally normal to have her there.

We even sang happy birthday to her and then K.C. got the present that Savannah had for Craig. There were 2 things that Savannah was going to give but we hadn't really talked about how or when. I was expecting it to be a train set that was in our bedroom. But I guess K.C. thought it was the train table, so that's what he got. It is quite large and made it a little crowded in the living room but Craig loved it and he's found part of it the day before so he was delighted to get to play with it.

Me and our newest miracle!

I can just tell that she's going to be a daddy's girl.

Craig has liked her ever since he met her. He doesn't want to hold her but he always keeps tabs on her and makes sure she's ok.

We let my sisters and parents come in as Janae was finishing up measuring and weighing her.

 First outfit.

Grandma and Grandpa Farr. These two people have figured out how to win the hearts of their grandchildren from day one.

Craig ran and got his cars and introduced each one to Savannah. It was SO CUTE!

"Here's Mr. The King Savannah!"

"Oh Savannah don't you like Doc?"

I love my little family. I'm so happy that Craig likes his sister. I am very very grateful for my wonderful husband who has helped and supported me and been Mr. Incredible while I've been recovering. K.C. You're amazing. Thanks for a beautiful family. I love you.

Week 40... and then some

So it seems that I will be pregnant for the rest of my life. I'm glad that this is actually not humanly possible, but at this point it just seems like I will be the first to try it. I know I'm only almost a week late, and there have been many other people who have gone later and longer than that and still survived. Power to them. I wish I knew the secret to relaxing and patiently waiting for her. Maybe it would be easier if I didn't have a contraction every little while to remind me that I'm still pregnant and that I'm still not in labor and that I'm still just waiting on her!

But on the up side, I am feeling better. I have virtually no Sciatic pain. My left hip has been the one hurting lately and it's been much much better the last couple of days. I've even been able to roll over in bed without my pelvis killing me! For the last several months, once I get laid down I pretty much have to have help to move or I just have to deal with pain that makes we want to scream or cry if I try to do it myself.

I've been going to a wellness clinic that has helped me a ton and finally yesterday I noticed that the pelvic pain was starting to go away and I was starting to feel more like I ought to feel. I'm very grateful for this blessing. At least if I have to wait I can at least do it with a measure of comfort instead of in misery!

I guess we'll see what happens now. (or in this case what DOESN'T happen!)

Week 39 1/2

39 1/2 weeks Pregnant and still no sign of that changing.

This is me trying to be patient.

Thanks Wand for taking pictures. It was fun. But next time I think I'd rather not fall into a hole! I think those pants still have little stickers in them!

We went to Harmons while the Hunts were here, and mom loved the "Expectant Mother Parking" spot so of course I had to get a picture with it. I got a lot of really weird looks though! haha. Fun times.

Week 38 (and 5 days)

For a while there it seemed like she was going to surprise us all and come early. But Here I am at almost 40 weeks. Still pregnant and seemingly going to stay that way. :)

Week 38

38 weeks and still pregnant :) She gave us a little startle there for a while, but the contractions have slowed down quite a bit. I still have several a day but they're not nearly so regular. But on the upside, when I do have a contraction it's quite a bit harder than it was before.

I feel like we're still making progress though. If I can get a lot of the preparation and hard part out of the way little by little with little to no pain before I go into labor, that's just fine with me. Although this little false alarm has got me feeling more anxious and ready to just have her right now, there are still very distinct advantages to waiting till after K.C.'s graduation. So Although it would be nice to have her now, I'm still content to wait.

Last I went to the midwife (almost a week ago) everything was looking good. She still seems quite healthy and growing. My ribs have been KILLING me, I must have bruised them or something because all along the right side is just inflamed with pain. it makes it hard to breath, or cough (which I still do semi-regularly) or lay on my side.

I have been going to a health clinic that has been helping me to feel quite a bit better and stay in good condition for the birth. I've even had some relief from my hip pain.

Oh and the sciatic pain has all but disappeared. So nice.

I guess we just have to wait and see now what this little one has in mind, it will be fun to find out what that is!

Week 37

37 Weeks.

I'm pretty proud of myself though. These pants are dress pants that K.C. got me as a wedding present that I wore the day we got married. And I could still put them on! (Alright no they didn't button but still I feel like it's quite the accomplishment.

(and I made the bow in my hair :) it was a fun spur of the moment project.

The Guessing Game

Friday morning K.C. was getting ready to go to SD2 (a training session for the leaders of Akela's Council) in Payson. He was going to be gone for 2 days.

Unexpectedly as he was getting ready to go I started having contractions. Great timing! I'm 37.5 weeks pregnant and all of a sudden out of the blue it decided I needed one more thing to worry about while K.C. was gone. The other fun part was that I had to prepare a sharing time lesson and a Talk for sacrament meeting on Sunday. Joy.

So long story short I tried to keep myself busy. Some of the things that were done on Friday and Saturday included: had my sisters over, the neighbor girls came to play, got a manicure and pedicure, built a crib, had a sleepover and movie night, went to yard sales, picked up paint to paint a shelf for baby sister, had Shannon and Julia over, went to the park, had lots of help getting my house less chaotic and I'm sure there are other things that I'm just not remembering.

It was a fun busy 2 days (even though I was lonely for my K.C.). The whole time the contractions were not very strong but about 15 minutes apart. I was just a little worried but figured it was just taunting me.

When K.C. finally got back into cell service Saturday night and I told him what was going on he started for home at 90 miles an hour.  (literally).

He got pulled over, (of course he did, it's K.C. every one likes to pull him over, whether there's a good reason or not.)

But when the officer heard why he was hurrying he said "Well Mr. Hunt if it was my wife I'd be doing the same thing. So I'm going to cut you a break this time but you might want to slow down because I don't know what the next guy is gonna do." I was amazed that he was so blessed to get that officer. It made me happy that there are still people that are real people and can care about others and have compassion for their situations. It was cool.

Anyways K.C. got home Saturday night around 9:15. I was stressed and still trying to prepare a talk for sacrament meeting (honestly I'd been working on it all week, listening to the talk it was based off of and pondering and studying I was just trying to put all of it together in a sensible way). Thankfully when I had called to tell Jessica (the primary president) that there was a possibility of me not making it to church to do sharing time she had told me she would do it for me. I wasn't expecting that but it was such a blessing and took such a big weight off of my mind. THANK YOU JESSICA! Remind me to be as awesome as you are someday.

What worried me the most is that the midwife had said the most common cause of transport to the hospital during a home birth was maternal exhaustion. So I was supposed to get as much sleep as possible as soon as I started to think that something was happening. So the thoughts of staying up late trying to get this talk finished and then having to get up early and get ready for church, get to church and have to give some kind of sensible talk worried me a lot. I was already tired and that just sounded like I would be asking for trouble. Especially if I went into labor in the middle of the night and ended up not even giving the talk anyways and was exhausted from staying up so late and started the whole thing on the wrong foot.

K.C. made me go to bed and told me not to worry about the talk. It was really hard for me to do but I was so grateful that me made me do it. I ended up being up most of the night because I was so uncomfortable. We even tried watching a show and that didn't distract me very much.

Today I expected the contractions to stop all together and then I'd just feel terrible because I had not given my talk for no reason! But they've kept going 10 - 15 minutes apart, they still aren't very painful, just enough of a distraction to keep me thinking that I might go into labor any time. But also just far enough apart and just painless enough to make me think it will stop any second and keeping waiting and wondering.

So that is the story of the weekend. Who knows what will happen, but at this point we're just watching and waiting.

Week 35

So technically this is 35 1/2 weeks...

I'm finally getting caught up on all the pictures that I've been slacking to post. I still have week 36 to post, but I can't because I haven't taken them yet :)

We went repelling on a couples date. It was so much fun!
(Even though I just got to sit and watch the whole time, I got to visit with and get to know some awesome people.)

So this is me at the bottom of the cliff.

And here's K.C. at the top ;)

I'll post all of the updates on pregnancy and baby with my 36 week update.

Baby Shower

(only 6 weeks left!)

Some wonderful ladies in my ward threw me a baby shower! It was so nice of them!

There were cute decorations...

Some classically funny shower games...
(Andrea won - I never realized how hard it was to drink out of a bottle... I have much more respect for the little people who have to eat out of them!)

I wasn't thinking enough to get a picture of this awesome cake before we started to eat it... So here's the remains of it. Sara Sullivan made it, it's seriously the best cake I've ever had before. I knew she made cakes but I never knew she was so talented and that they were so GOOD. Most of the pretty cakes that I've ever eaten did not taste good. This was pretty and yummy!

There was lots of really yummy food.
And lots of good company
(I would post pictures of the group but in just about every picture someone was making a funny face, so I figured they might be happier with me if I just left those out of the post :)

And lastly, the presents...

It was wonderful and such a blessing. I recieved things that were just what I needed, including diapers, clothes, hair accessories (can't wait to dress her up!) and a sit and stand stroller. I feel much better prepared for our little one to join the world and I'm very grateful for the wonderful people who have helped me to feel that way.

Week 34

Of course when Craig saw the pictures being taken he exclaimed "Oh this is so fun!"
So he had to be in them too.
